How it started
There has been a culmination of things that have contributed to the decision to launch the brand For God and Country Apparel. I was listening to a podcast and there was a conversation about someone getting kicked out of the mall of America for wearing a “Jesus Saves” t-shirt citing that it was offensive. This infuriated me because just the previous week, there had been a drag show there with children in attendance. I though to myself, when did it become offensive to be a Christian in this country? I hadn’t really noticed how far away from traditional values this country had gotten but it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks. Around this time a friend of mine suggested a book titled “the ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer. It really dove into how much we need to slow down and how everyone in this country is always so distracted and in a hurry all the time. There was a section where he talked about his wardrobe and how textile manufacturing conditions in other countries are appalling. That prompted me to look at the labels of everything in my closet. I didn’t have one thing in my closet that was made in America! Get this, not even my kids Cub Scouts uniforms are made in America! The Boy Scouts of America gets their uniforms and clothing from Bangladesh! Part of the scout oath is “to do my duty to God and my country.” Buying clothing from Bangladesh isn’t really doing any duty to our country.
I felt a pull to do something about it and started contemplating how. After praying over it for weeks, God put it on us to make our own brand that is Made in America and supports our traditional values. With that, For God and Country Apparel was born!
We began having conversations with people across the country to understand the supply chain starting from the cotton farmers to the textile mills in North Carolina. We provide a brand that people will be proud of wearing and confident that they are supporting American workers and their families, a brand that shows the world that we hold fast to our faith, family, and our freedom. Additionally, we are firm believers in the importance of tithing. Because of this, we have written into our company policy that 10% of all profits will be given back to God through charitable giving.
We have a long journey ahead of us and are excited to share it with you. We love feedback so please feel free to reach out and let us know how you feel about what we are doing.
